Statistics

The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) publishes statistics on the incidence of prostate cancer among Australian men.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in Australia (apart from common skin cancers) and is the second most common cause of death from cancer in Australian men open (after lung cancer) accounting for around 13% of cancer related deaths in men. AIHW data show that deaths from prostate cancer have risen by around 30% since 2007, with more than 3,900 men estimated to have died from this disease in 2024—that over 11 men a day.

Fortunately, prostate cancer is often very slow growing and therefore many men will survive their cancer for many years.

Statistics on prostate cancer are available from the AIHW’s publication, Cancer data in Australia 2024, and on the Cancer Australia website.
